BCL11A

BCL11A, known as B-cell CLL/lymphoma 11A, is a zinc finger protein and a member of the transcription factor family. It is expressed in a variety of cell types, including myeloid and B-cells, and may play an important role in leukemogenesis and haematopoiesis.The BCL11A gene is located on chromosome 2p15 and encodes a protein that regulates the expression of downstream genes by binding to specific sequences on the DNA.BCL11A plays a key role in the formation of lymphocytes, in particular B-cells, in the fetal liver. In addition, BCL11A may serve as a novel target for molecular therapy of leukaemia, and its aberrant expression is associated with the development of leukaemia. Thus, BCL11A is biologically important in cell development, leukaemia development and potential therapeutic strategies.
