CD52

CD52, a 12-amino-acid glycoprotein, is widely present on a range of immune cells, including mature lymphocytes, natural killer cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, monocytes/macrophages, and dendritic cells. Anchored to the cell surface by glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI), CD52 may contribute to cell motility by inhibiting cell adhesion. It plays a key role in immune responses by facilitating cell surface molecule interactions that are crucial for delivering co-stimulatory signals required for T cell activation and proliferation. In addition, soluble CD52 interacts with Siglec-10, an immunoglobulin-like lectin that restrains sialic acid binding, thereby dampening T cell proliferation and activation. CD52 protein's multifaceted functioins is vital for regulating immune responses and has considerable implications for T cell activation and the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases.
