CDKL3, also known as Cyclin-Dependent Kinase-like 3, has the alternative name NKIAMRE. CDKL3 belongs to the Cyclin-Dependent Protein Kinase (CDK) family and is a serine/threonine protein kinase. CDKL3 binds to specific cyclin proteins, directly phosphorylating retinoblastoma protein (Rb) to promote the exit of cells from their resting state. It also prevents the ubiquitinization and proteasomal degradation of CDK4 by directly phosphorylating the T172 site of CDK4, thus maintaining the progression of the G1 phase. CDKL3 plays a crucial role in regulating the cell cycle, apoptosis, autophagy, and microtubule dynamics, and is associated with the development and progression of various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and kidney diseases.
