CPN1

CPN1, also known as Coagulation factor XI, is a serine protease involved in the blood coagulation cascade. It is commonly referred to as plasma thromboplastin antecedent. Its mechanism of action involves activation by factor XIIa or thrombin, which then activates factor IX, leading to the formation of a thrombin - generating complex. It participates in the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation.
Deficiencies in CPN1 are associated with hemophilia C, a rare bleeding disorder. In drug development, anticoagulant therapies targeting CPN1 are being explored to manage thrombotic diseases. These novel agents aim to balance the coagulation process and reduce the risk of unwanted clot formation.
