FLCN

FLCN, also known as follicle-stimulating hormone, has alternative names including BHD, FLCL, and DENND8B. FLCN is a tumor suppressor that may participate in energy and/or nutrient sensing through the AMPK and mTOR signaling pathways, regulating RPS6KB1 phosphorylation. FLCN involves multiple cellular pathways, including membrane transport, energy and nutrient homeostasis, and lysosomal biogenesis. By modulating various metabolic pathways, such as mitochondrial oxidative metabolism, it maintains cellular homeostasis. Mutations in FLCN are associated with Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD syndrome), an autosomal dominant genetic disorder primarily characterized by dermoid cysts of the hair follicles, renal cysts, and renal tumors.
