HNRNPA2B1

Heterogeneous Nuclear Ribonucleoprotein A2/B1 (hnRNP A2/B1) is an RNA-binding protein encoded by the HNRNPA2B1 gene, with common aliases including A2B1 and hnRNP A2. It mediates post-transcriptional gene regulation—such as pre-mRNA splicing, nuclear-cytoplasmic mRNA transport, and translational control—by binding to specific RNA motifs, thus modulating gene expression dynamics.
This protein participates in RNA processing and alternative splicing pathways. Dysregulation links it to neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s, ALS) via abnormal tau or TDP-43 metabolism, and cancers (breast, lung) by promoting oncogene expression or metastasis. Preclinical studies target its RNA-binding domain with small molecules, though no approved therapeutics exist to date.
