HRH1

The HRH1 gene encodes the histamine receptor H1, a G-protein-coupled receptor. Commonly known as H1R, it is expressed in various tissues and plays a crucial role in allergic responses and inflammation. HRH1 mediates its effects by activating intracellular signaling pathways, including those involving Gq proteins, phospholipase C, and inositol triphosphate. It is involved in the regulation of smooth muscle contraction, vasodilation, and neurotransmission. HRH1 is associated with allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria, and its dysregulation may contribute to the pathophysiology of these conditions. Drug development efforts have focused on HRH1 antagonists, which are used to treat allergies and may have potential in the treatment of COVID-19 by inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 entry into cells.
