IGSF1 encodes the Immunoglobulin Superfamily Member 1 protein, also commonly known as IGSF-1. This protein is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is mainly involved in cell - cell adhesion and signaling. It participates in multiple signaling pathways related to cell growth, differentiation, and immune responses.
Mutations in IGSF1 are associated with central hypothyroidism and variable degrees of gonadotropin deficiency. Regarding drug development, current research is focused on understanding its precise role in these pathways. Preliminary studies aim to develop targeted therapies to modulate IGSF1 - related signaling for treating the associated diseases.
