IL6RA

IL6RA, the alpha subunit of the interleukin-6 receptor, is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that is secreted by various cells, including those of the immune system, epithelia, and adipose tissue. By binding to IL-6 and forming a complex with the membrane protein gp130, IL6RA triggers the activation of signaling pathways such as JAK/STAT, MAPK, and Akt, which are crucial for regulating cell growth, differentiation, immune responses, acute phase reactions, and hematopoiesis. Dysfunction of IL6RA is implicated in the development of numerous diseases, including multiple myeloma, autoimmune disorders, and prostate cancer.
