IMPACT

The IMPACT protein, officially named "inositol monophosphatase domain-containing protein," is a conserved enzyme primarily involved in inositol phosphate metabolism, catalyzing the dephosphorylation of inositol monophosphates to regulate intracellular inositol levels. It interacts with phosphatidylinositol signaling pathways, influencing cellular processes like calcium homeostasis and vesicle trafficking.
Dysregulation of IMPACT has been linked to neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, where its altered expression may disrupt synaptic function. Limited drug development targeting IMPACT is underway, with preclinical studies exploring small-molecule modulators to restore inositol balance in pathological conditions.
