INSIG1

INSIG1, full name insulin-induced gene 1. It is an intracellular regulatory protein involved in cholesterol synthesis, lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity regulation, maintaining metabolic homeostasis. INSIG1 deficiency causes lipid disorders and correlates with obesity, fatty liver and diabetes. Its overexpression improves insulin resistance. INSIG1 activators are under preclinical research for metabolic diseases.
