KIF13B

KIF13B, also known as kinesin family member 13B, is a motor protein that plays crucial roles in various cellular processes. It is involved in intracellular transport, endocytosis, signaling, and cell division. KIF13B interacts with microtubules and utilizes ATP hydrolysis to transport cargoes along the microtubule tracks. This protein is also known to regulate mitochondrial functions and lipid metabolism. KIF13B deficiency has been associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and atherosclerosis. It interacts with AMP-activated catalytic subunit alpha 1 (AMPKα1) to regulate mitochondrial homeostasis and suppress de novo lipogenesis in the liver. Research on KIF13B has identified its potential as a therapeutic target for MAFLD and atherosclerosis, with ongoing studies exploring the development of new drugs targeting this protein.
