KLK4

KLK4, kallikrein-related peptidase 4, is a secreted serine protease mainly expressed in prostate and bone tissues. It exerts proteolytic effects on extracellular matrix components, participates in bone remodeling and maintains local tissue homeostasis together with other kallikrein family members.

KLK4 is markedly upregulated in prostate cancer, remodelling surrounding matrix and facilitating cancer invasion. Its dysregulation is also detected in disorders of bone metabolism. Specific neutralizing antibodies and small-molecule inhibitors against KLK4 have undergone pharmacological validation for prostate malignancy research.
