KLK6

Kallikrein‑related peptidase 6, also known as Neurosin, Zyme, BSSP, is a secreted serine protease broadly distributed in the central nervous system, breast and ovarian tissues. It catalyzes proteolytic cleavage of myelin‑related proteins and amyloid precursor protein to sustain normal tissue homeostasis.
Dysregulated KLK6 abundance is detected in ovarian, breast and lung malignancies as well as neurodegenerative lesions, supporting its biomarker potential in tissue and body‑fluid specimens. Drug development for KLK6 remains at pre‑clinical level. Small‑molecule and protein‑based inhibitors are only assessed in cell‑based assays and animal models. No candidates have entered human clinical trials and no approved therapeutics are available for this target.
