LTBP4, also known as latent-transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 4, is a crucial protein. It is also commonly referred to as LTBP-4. LTBP4 plays a key role in regulating the bioavailability of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) by sequestering it in the extracellular matrix. It is involved in the TGF-β signaling pathway, which is vital for cell growth, differentiation, and tissue repair.
Mutations in the LTBP4 gene are associated with various diseases, such as cutis laxa and congenital heart diseases. In drug development, targeting LTBP4 to modulate TGF-β activity is an emerging area of research. Scientists are exploring potential therapies to treat diseases related to abnormal TGF-β signaling by influencing LTBP4 function.
