MYT1

The protein encoded by the MYT1 gene, also known as Myelin Transcription Factor 1, is a zinc finger-containing DNA-binding protein. MYT1 is primarily expressed in neural tissues and plays a crucial role in neuronal differentiation. It functions by repressing the expression of non-neuronal genes and promoting neuronal maturation. MYT1 is involved in the Hippo signaling pathway, where it represses the expression of the YAP1 coactivator, thereby limiting cell proliferation and tumor growth. Reduced expression of MYT1 has been associated with glioblastoma and other aggressive brain cancers, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target in cancer research.
