NPR3

NPR3 encodes the natriuretic peptide receptor 3, also commonly known as NPR-C. This protein serves as a clearance receptor for natriuretic peptides, which play crucial roles in regulating fluid and electrolyte balance, as well as blood pressure. It binds to atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), facilitating their removal from circulation and terminating their signaling.
NPR3 is involved in the natriuretic peptide signaling pathway. Dysregulation of this receptor has been associated with several diseases, such as hypertension and heart failure. In drug development, targeting NPR3 is being explored as a potential strategy for treating these cardiovascular disorders, aiming to optimize the natriuretic peptide system.
