PRMT7

PRMT7, also known as protein arginine methyltransferase 7, has alternative names including ANM7, FLJ10640, and KIAA1933. PRMT7 is a member of the protein arginine N-methyltransferase family, where the encoded enzyme transfers a single methyl group to an arginine residue, generating mono-methylarginine on histones and other protein substrates.
PRMT7 can perform post-translational methylation modifications on substrate proteins, participating in chromatin structure regulation, gene expression, cell signaling, protein spliceosome assembly, cell migration, drug resistance, regenerative capacity, and pluripotent maintenance among other cellular activities. PRMT7 plays a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes, including neuronal differentiation, male germline imprinting, nucleolar ribonucleoprotein biogenesis, and Wnt signaling pathway regulation. Abnormal expression or dysfunction of PRMT7 is associated with multiple diseases, such as intellectual disabilities, dwarfism, and other syndromes.
