RAB12

RAB12 encodes a small GTPase belonging to the RAS oncogene family, officially named RAB12, member RAS oncogene family, and commonly referred to as Rab12. As a key vesicular trafficking regulator, it cycles between GTP-bound active and GDP-bound inactive states, mediating vesicle transport from endosomes to the Golgi apparatus or lysosomes, and participating in autophagy regulation.
It interacts with the mTOR signaling pathway to modulate autophagic flux; its dysregulation has been linked to neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease and certain cancers. Currently, targeted drug development for RAB12 remains in preclinical stages, with studies exploring small molecule inhibitors to alter its GTPase activity for therapeutic intervention.
