RPS25

RPS25, full name Ribosomal Protein S25, is a core component of the eukaryotic 40S small ribosomal subunit. Common aliases include S25 and RPS25_HUMAN. It participates in translation initiation by facilitating 43S pre-initiation complex assembly and interacting with mRNA 5' untranslated regions to promote start codon recognition.
Dysregulation of RPS25 correlates with colorectal and lung cancer, where overexpression enhances cell proliferation and tumor progression. No specific drugs targeting RPS25 are approved yet, but its role in ribosomal function makes it a potential candidate for anti-cancer therapies disrupting abnormal translation in malignant cells.
