S100P

S100P is a member of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, also known as S100 protein P. It plays important roles in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and motility by interacting with target proteins in a calcium-dependent manner. S100P is involved in multiple signaling pathways, such as the MAPK and PI3K-Akt pathways, which are crucial for cell survival and growth.
Altered expression of S100P has been associated with various diseases, especially cancers like pancreatic, breast, and prostate cancer. It serves as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target. Currently, several drug discovery efforts are underway to develop S100P inhibitors to block its function, aiming to provide new treatment options for related diseases.
