SELPLG

SELPG, selectin P ligand, alias CLA, CD162, PSGL1, PSGL-1, is a glycoprotein encoded by the human SELPG gene that is expressed predominantly on myeloid cells and stimulated T lymphocytes.
SELPG mediates leukocyte adhesion to activated platelets or selectin-expressing endothelial cells by acting as a high-affinity counter-receptor for P-, E-, and L-selectin, a process that is critical for leukocyte trafficking during inflammation.
SELPG requires post-translational modification by tyrosine sulfation and O-linked glycan-added salivary acid Lewis x tetrasaccharide (sLex) to achieve its high-affinity binding activity. SELPG plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response, and its aberrant expression and gene polymorphisms have been associated with defective immune responses.
