Serpin B10, formally named Serpin Family B Member 10, is a serine protease inhibitor commonly known as PAI-6. It reversibly targets enzymes like urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), regulating the plasminogen activation cascade that controls extracellular matrix breakdown and cell migration.
Dysregulated SERPINB10 expression links to pathologies: overexpression may boost tumor invasion via uPA-mediated matrix remodeling, while underexpression could increase bleeding risk from unregulated fibrinolysis. Current research explores its potential as a biomarker or therapeutic target for cancers and thrombotic disorders, though clinical drug development remains early-stage.
