TCAP, also known as Telethonin, T-cap, LGMD2G, LGMDR7, etc., is a protein encoded by the human TCAP gene, primarily expressed in striated muscle and cardiac muscle, and closely associated with the structure and function of muscle.
TCAP can bind to the Z1-Z2 domain of titin and serves as a substrate for titin kinase, playing a crucial role in sarcomere assembly. Mutations in the TCAP gene are associated with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 2G (LGMD2G) and cardiomyopathy. TCAP plays an important role in maintaining the structural integrity and function of muscle, and its abnormal expression or loss of function may lead to muscle diseases, including dystrophy and myopathy.
