TDO2, Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase, also known as TO, TDO, TPH2, TRPO, HYPTRP. TDO2 is encoded by the human TDO2 gene, which is located on chromosome 4 in the q32.1 region.
TDO2 is a heme enzyme that plays a key role in tryptophan metabolism by catalyzing the first and rate-limiting step of the kynurenine pathway, which converts tryptophan to kynurenine. The increased activity of TDO2 and subsequent production of kynurenine may play a role in cancer by suppressing antitumor immune responses, and single nucleotide polymorphisms in this gene may be associated with autism. TDO2 plays a key role in regulating tryptophan levels throughout the body and has an important role in cancer immunology.
