TMEM17

The protein encoded by TMEM17, officially named transmembrane protein 17, is a member of the transmembrane protein family with no widely recognized common aliases. Its precise role remains incompletely characterized, but structural predictions suggest it may function in ion transport or membrane signaling due to its transmembrane domains.
Emerging studies link TMEM17 to autophagy regulation and lysosomal function, potentially interacting with pathways involved in cellular waste disposal. Dysregulation has been tentatively associated with neurodegenerative disorders, though direct causal evidence is limited. Currently, no targeted drugs or clinical trials involving TMEM17 are publicly reported.
