The protein encoded by TMEM65, officially named transmembrane protein 65, is an integral membrane protein with no widely recognized aliases. Its precise molecular mechanism remains incompletely characterized, though emerging evidence suggests involvement in mitochondrial membrane organization and ion transport processes.
TMEM65 has been linked to mitochondrial dysfunction-associated pathways, potentially intersecting with cellular energy metabolism regulation. While direct disease associations are limited, preliminary studies implicate TMEM65 variants in rare metabolic disorders. Currently, no targeted therapeutics targeting TMEM65 are in clinical development, reflecting the need for further functional characterization of this understudied protein.
