ATAD3A

ATAD3A encodes ATPase family AAA domain-containing protein 3A, a mitochondrial inner membrane protein also known as ATPase family AAA domain-containing protein 3-like protein. It regulates mitochondrial dynamics and cholesterol transport, maintaining mitochondrial morphology and function. ATAD3A interacts with proteins involved in mitochondrial fission-fusion processes and cholesterol metabolism pathways.
Dysregulation of ATAD3A is linked to mitochondrial diseases, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and hereditary spastic paraplegia. Its overexpression correlates with various cancers, promoting tumor cell proliferation and metastasis. Currently, no specific drugs targeting ATAD3A are approved, but small molecule inhibitors targeting its ATPase activity are under preclinical investigation.
