BCR

BCR, the B cell antigen receptor, is a surface molecule on B cells that primarily functions as a surface immunoglobulin (smlg or MIG). This receptor is designed to recognize a wide spectrum of antigens, including proteins, polypeptides, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, lipids, and small molecules, through specific binding. Upon antigen recognition, BCR initiates a cascade of events beginning with the polymerization and structural alteration of the BCR complex. This leads to the activation of cytoplasmic tyrosine kinases, which in turn trigger a series of signal transduction reactions. These reactions ultimately result in the regulation of gene transcription, driving B cell proliferation and differentiation. The ability of BCR to engage with antigens is pivotal to the adaptive immune response, playing a crucial role in antibody production and the establishment of immune memory.
