BRAF

BRAF, or B-type rapid response protein kinase, is a serine/threonine kinase that is a member of the RAF family.BRAF is encoded by the BRAF gene and is widely present in a wide range of tissues, especially in neuronal and skin cells. Its mechanism of action involves phosphorylation and dimerisation upon binding to the activated form of the RAS protein, which in turn activates the downstream MEK/ERK signalling pathway, which plays a key role in cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and apoptosis.The biological significance of BRAF lies in its central role in the regulation of the cell cycle, the cellular stress response, and intracellular signalling.Mutations in the BRAF gene, particularly in its kinases, are associated with a number of changes. Mutations in the BRAF gene, especially in its kinase structural domain, have been associated with the development of a variety of cancers, such as melanoma, colorectal cancer, etc. Therefore, BRAF is also an important target in cancer therapy.
