CENPB, also known as centromere protein B, is a key component in the centromere region of chromosomes. It has no widely - recognized common aliases. CENPB binds to a specific DNA sequence called the CENP - B box, playing a crucial role in centromere assembly and kinetochore formation. This protein is involved in the mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint signaling pathway, ensuring proper chromosome segregation.
Mutations or abnormal expression of CENPB are associated with some chromosomal instability - related diseases, such as certain types of cancers. Currently, the drug development targeting CENPB is in the early stages. Research is exploring how to modulate its function to correct chromosomal abnormalities and potentially treat related diseases.
