CES1

CES1 encodes carboxylesterase 1, also commonly known as CES1A1. This enzyme hydrolyzes a wide range of endogenous and exogenous esters, playing crucial roles in lipid metabolism and drug detoxification. Mechanistically, it cleaves ester bonds in substrates. It is involved in the peroxisome proliferator - activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathway.
Abnormal CES1 activity is associated with several diseases, including obesity and hyperlipidemia. In drug development, CES1 is a key target for drugs treating lipid - related disorders. Some inhibitors are under pre - clinical studies to modulate CES1 function for better therapeutic outcomes.
