CLINT1

CLINT1 encodes clathrin interactor 1, commonly known as epsinR or CLINT. As an adaptor protein, it mediates clathrin-dependent vesicular trafficking—specifically sorting mannose-6-phosphate receptors from the trans-Golgi network to endosomes, ensuring proper intracellular protein localization and transport.
Dysfunction of CLINT1 disrupts endocytic pathways, potentially contributing to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, where impaired protein sorting leads to toxic aggregate buildup. While no targeted therapies exist yet, ongoing studies explore its role in pathological trafficking to identify novel intervention strategies.
