CST3, full name cystatin C. It is a widely secreted protease inhibitor regulating tissue remodeling, and serves as a sensitive clinical biomarker for renal function assessment.
Dysregulated CST3 correlates with renal injury, atherosclerosis and brain tumors. CST3-targeted regulators are under preclinical research for renal and central nervous system diseases.
