ELAPOR1, fully named Endosome-Lysosome Associated Apoptosis And Autophagy Regulator 1 (aliases: EIG121, KIAA1324), is an estrogen-induced transmembrane protein. Linked to endosome-lysosome compartments, it aids autophagy and cell proliferation, protecting cells from death via upregulated autophagy under starvation or cytotoxic exposure.
Recent studies show ELAPOR1 is key for sperm acrosome formation. As a copper-dependent membrane tether, it drives PAV fusion to form acrosomes, shedding light on male reproduction. It correlates with neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Companies now produce ELAPOR1 for research/diagnosis, with targeted drugs promising future treatments.
