FAP

FAP, short - form for Fibroblast Activation Protein alpha, is also commonly known as Seprase. It is a type II transmembrane serine protease. FAP cleaves a variety of peptide substrates and participates in extracellular matrix remodeling. It is involved in the Wnt signaling pathway, which is crucial for cell growth and differentiation.
FAP is up - regulated in many diseases, including cancer and fibrosis. The over - expression in tumors is associated with poor prognosis. In drug development, FAP is being explored as a target for both diagnostic imaging agents and therapeutics. Anti - FAP antibodies and FAP - targeted small molecules are under investigation.
