FER

The FER gene encodes the FER tyrosine kinase protein, a non-receptor tyrosine kinase also known as FER proto-oncogene tyrosine kinase. It plays a crucial role in regulating cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation through phosphorylation of downstream substrates. FER is involved in multiple signaling pathways, including the EGFR and integrin signaling cascades, where it modulates cytoskeletal dynamics and cell survival.
Aberrant FER expression or activity has been linked to various cancers, such as breast, ovarian, and colorectal cancer, promoting tumor progression and metastasis. Preclinical studies have identified FER inhibitors as potential therapeutic agents, with several small-molecule inhibitors currently under investigation for targeted cancer therapy, showing promising results in blocking tumor growth in preclinical models.
