FERMT2

FERMT2 encodes kindlin-2, a focal adhesion protein that binds integrins to activate cell-extracellular matrix adhesion. It mediates cytoskeletal-ECM linkage via interactions with talin and actin, regulating cell migration, proliferation, and survival. Kindlin-2 participates in signaling pathways like TGF-β and Wnt, modulating gene expression and cell differentiation.
Dysregulation of FERMT2 is linked to cancers (e.g., breast, lung), where overexpression promotes metastasis. It also associates with fibrotic diseases and cardiovascular disorders by enhancing myofibroblast activation. Preclinical studies target kindlin-2-integrin interactions, but no specific drugs have entered clinical trials.
