GKN1

GKN1 encodes gastrokine-1, also commonly known as GKN-1. This protein is predominantly expressed in the gastric mucosa. Its mechanism of action involves promoting gastric epithelial cell proliferation and repairing damaged gastric mucosa. It participates in the Wnt signaling pathway, which is crucial for cell growth and differentiation.
Defects in GKN1 are associated with gastric diseases, such as gastric cancer. In drug development, researchers are exploring agents that can enhance GKN1 expression or mimic its function to prevent and treat related gastric disorders. These efforts may lead to new therapeutic strategies in the future.
