GNRH1

GNRH1 encodes the gonadotropin-releasing hormone 1, also known as luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH). This neuropeptide plays a crucial role in the reproductive system. It acts on the anterior pituitary gland, binding to specific receptors to stimulate the synthesis and secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This process is mediated by the Gq protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway.
Mutations or dysregulation of GNRH1 are associated with various reproductive disorders, such as hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. In drug development, synthetic analogs of GNRH1 are widely used in the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers, endometriosis, and infertility, showing great potential in clinical applications.
