IP6K2

IP6K2 encodes inositol hexakisphosphate kinase 2, an enzyme that phosphorylates inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6) to generate inositol pyrophosphates, such as IP7. It is also known as inositol 1,3,4,5,6-pentakisphosphate 2-kinase. This enzyme regulates cellular processes by modulating intracellular signaling and vesicle trafficking through interactions with proteins like AKT and mTOR.
IP6K2 is involved in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, influencing cell growth and survival. Dysregulation is linked to cancer, particularly colorectal and breast cancers, where its overexpression promotes tumor progression. Current research explores IP6K2 inhibitors as potential anticancer agents, with preclinical studies showing efficacy in reducing tumor growth by targeting aberrant signaling cascades.
