ITGA2B

ITGA2, or integrin subunit α2b, alias platelet membrane glycoprotein IIb (GPIIb), CD41B, the α subunit of αIIbβ3 integrin.ITGA2B is a cell surface receptor encoded by the ITGA2B gene, which is one of the members of the integrin α chain family. It binds noncovalently to the β3 subunit (ITGB3) in platelets to form αIIbβ3 integrin, a key receptor for platelet aggregation and blood coagulation.The mechanism of action of ITGA2B involves binding to a variety of ligands such as fibrinogen, fibronectin, thrombospondin, platelet reactive protein, and vitronectin by recognizing specific amino acid sequences such as R-G-D and H H-L-G-G-G-G-A-K-Q-A-G-D-V.

ITGA2B has a wide range of biological significance and plays an important role in processes such as blood coagulation, wound healing, inflammatory responses, and cell migration. αIIbβ3 integrins, as the main aggregation receptors for platelets, are involved in platelet adhesion and aggregation to sites of vascular injury, which is critical for maintaining blood mobility and preventing bleeding. In addition, aberrant function of ITGA2B has been associated with a variety of diseases, including Glanzmann thrombopenia, an inherited platelet dysfunction disorder, and other bleeding disorders. Therefore, ITGA2B is an important target in hematology research and treatment of related diseases.
