KLK2

The KLK2 gene encodes a protein known as kallikrein-related peptidase 2, also referred to as prostate-specific antigen (PSA). This serine protease plays a crucial role in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins and is implicated in various physiological processes. KLK2 is primarily associated with the prostate gland, where its overexpression is linked to prostate diseases, including prostate cancer. It functions through the activation of the complement system and the regulation of cell adhesion and migration. In terms of signaling pathways, KLK2 is involved in the Wnt and TGF-β pathways.
