KLK2

KLK2, kallikrein-related peptidase 2, also known as human kallikrein 2 (hK2), is a secreted serine protease predominantly produced by prostatic epithelial cells. It exerts proteolytic activity alongside PSA and takes part in normal metabolic regulation within prostate tissues.

Upregulated KLK2 is detected prominently in prostate carcinoma. It serves as a circulating biomarker to distinguish benign prostate hyperplasia from malignancy and supports cancer cell invasion. Targeted antibodies and imaging probes against KLK2 are under clinical exploration for prostate cancer diagnosis and immunotherapeutic development.
