KLRC1

KLRC1, also known as CD161 or NKG2A, is a protein prominently present in the immune system, particularly within natural killer (NK) cells and a subset of cytotoxic T cells. Characterized by a type II membrane orientation and equipped with a C-type lectin domain, KLRC1 pairs with KLRD1, also known as CD94, to crucially recognize major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I HLA-E molecules. This interaction is fundamental for the activation and cytotoxic capabilities of NK cells, underscoring KLRC1's vital role in immune responses, especially in the detection and elimination of cells that are tumorous or virus-infected.
