KMT2D, or lysine methyltransferase 2D, also referred to as MLL2, is an enzyme encoded by the KMT2D gene. It functions in the nucleus by regulating gene expression and enhancer activity through the methylation and demethylation of histone H3-lysine 4. KMT2D contributes to cell proliferation, differentiation, and tumor development. Its dysfunction is implicated in a spectrum of diseases, including cancer, intellectual disability, and developmental disorders. KMT2D's role in activating pathways like PI3K/AKT and EMT in prostate cancer suggests its potential in driving tumor growth and metastasis, marking it as a significant target for oncological research and treatment.
