KRT35

Keratin 35 (KRT35), a type I acidic keratin, is also known as hair keratin Ha1 or cuticular keratin 1. It is predominantly expressed in the inner root sheath of hair follicles, where it forms intermediate filaments to maintain hair shaft structural integrity and support keratinocyte differentiation.
Associated with the Wnt/β-catenin pathway that regulates hair follicle development, KRT35 mutations may cause hair disorders like hypotrichosis. Current research focuses on gene therapy to correct KRT35 defects, though targeted drugs for these conditions are still in preclinical stages.
