MGP

MGP, also known as Matrix Gla Protein, is a well - known extracellular matrix protein. It has no very common aliases. MGP functions as a regulator of calcification. It binds to calcium ions and inhibits the deposition of hydroxyapatite, thus preventing abnormal calcification in soft tissues. It is involved in the BMP (Bone Morphogenetic Protein) signaling pathway.
