MKRN2

MKRN2 encodes the Makorin Ring Finger Protein 2. Also commonly known as RNFP2, it is a member of the makorin family characterized by multiple zinc - finger motifs. MKRN2 functions as an E3 ubiquitin - protein ligase, which can ubiquitinate target proteins, regulating their stability and degradation. It is involved in the Wnt signaling pathway, influencing cell proliferation and differentiation.
Abnormal expression of MKRN2 is associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and certain types of cancer. In drug development, the unique structure of MKRN2 has drawn attention. Scientists are exploring potential small - molecule inhibitors or activators to target its E3 ligase activity, aiming for novel therapies against related diseases.
