OXCT1

OXCT1, or 3-oxoacyl coenzyme A transferase 1, is a key enzyme that catalyses the catabolism of ketone bodies in extrahepatic tissues.The main function of OXCT1 is to oxidize the ketone body acetoacetate to acetoacetyl coenzyme A and ultimately to generate acetyl coenzyme A to enter the tricarboxylic acid cycle and provide energy to the cells.OXCT1 is highly expressed in a variety of tumours, and the level of its expression correlates positively with the degree of malignancy of the tumour OXCT1 is highly expressed in many tumours and its expression level is positively correlated with the malignancy of the tumour. In terms of mechanism of action, OXCT1 affects the metabolism and survival of tumour cells by regulating ketone body metabolism, especially the level of β-hydroxybutyric acid.OXCT1 also regulates the SREBP1-TRIM21-NF-κB signalling pathway through β-hydroxybutyric acid-mediated homeostasis of ketone body metabolism, which in turn affects the proliferation and survival of tumour cells. In a biological sense, OXCT1 not only plays a key role in energy metabolism, but its regulatory role in tumour development makes it a potential target for cancer therapy.
